Stay in a little bit of history

This Tram is the bottom 'First Class' deck of what was a double-decker, built by the Wallasey Tram Company in the early 1900s and lovingly restored and refurbished to offer bespoke holiday accommodation. The Tram has masses of original features and a few additions including a wood burner, double bed, outdoor kitchen, and a lovely veranda with spectacular views across the valley to the distant Welsh mountains.

The Space

The Tram once had two spiral staircases at either end providing access to the top deck. Unfortunately only the lower deck remains, but the lower deck was always the more opulent, and this shows in the lovely attention to detail created when it was made in 1900: carving, fret and filigree woodwork inside, and lovely little quarter-light windows, many of which still open. The inside has been kept deliberately uncomplicated so as not to interfere with the authenticity of this beautiful space.

Inside there is a lovely new glass-fronted wood burner, double bed with linen, kettle, toaster, small fridge, microwave, table and two chairs, radio, games and all finished with lovely silk curtains. The outside kitchen has a sink with cold tap, camping stove, pots, pans and all kitchen items, situated under the veranda which stretches around two sides of the Tram and includes a dining area with table and chairs. Small garden to front and rear.

The new bespoke bathroom is situated 10 feet behind The Tram and has an electric shower and flushing toilet.

Guest Access

Guests have private access to The Tram and the gardens around it. There is access to most areas within the property, including the woodland with 1,200 trees planted in 2011, mown paths leading through the grounds, an established wildlife pond, wildflowers, native birds and a mature woodland area. Absolutely magnificent 40-mile views across the valley looking east and south, embraced by mountains on either side. A good spot to catch the last of the evening sun.

Good to Know

The Goetre is on a bore-hole for freshwater, tested every year and absolutely pure drinking water — please do not bring plastic bottled water. At 1,100 feet it can be a little cooler, so bring warm clothes and slippers. Firewood for two nights is provided; additional loads cost £10 per barrow load. We kindly ask guests to use the recycling bins in line with Powys County Council's strict recycling policy. Saturday is market day in Llanidloes, 4 miles away. Someone is usually close to hand during your stay should you have any queries.

Goetre is run as an organic smallholding on permaculture principles. You are welcome to explore the 5 acres of woodland and grounds — please respect that this little oasis of nature really belongs to the wildlife.
