500 Years of History

The Goetre dates back to the early 1500s, making it over 500 years old, and is full of character with inglenook fireplaces, beams, and a wealth of history. You can immerse yourself in all the charm The Goetre has to offer — cosying up to the woodburner in the evening and walking the surrounding hills with exquisite landscapes and views that will blow you away during the day.

The Goetre sits on the escarpment of the Cambrian Mountains looking east and south down the Trannon valley into the Severn valley, with spectacular panoramic views over 35 miles, with far-off mountains cradling the horizon. Set exactly in mid Wales, this is the perfect location to explore this beautiful part of the world — easily accessible to mid, north and south Wales, with stunning beaches only a 40-minute drive away.

The Space

There is a lovely glass-fronted wood burner, central heating, and a recently purpose-built conservatory housing the main farmhouse kitchen with views straight down the valley. There is also a second kitchen next to the conservatory, two bathrooms, and a small deep freeze available to use. A pool table adds to the entertainment.

The sheltered, private, secluded back garden has a lawn, picnic tables and outdoor seating — a lovely place to relax or barbecue. Steps lead up to the woods and an outdoor fire pit, with a large bog garden and a small stream running through it. There are two TVs with Freeview, DVDs and player, games, leaflets, books, and OS maps.

The Grounds

Within the grounds there is access to most areas of the farmyard, including the woodland with 1,200 trees planted in 2011, mown paths leading through to seating areas, an established wildlife pond, and the mature woodland. The Goetre is on a bore-hole for freshwater, tested annually and absolutely pure — no need for bottled water. Parking for several cars.

We are 4 miles from Llanidloes, our nearest market town, with lots of independent shops selling local produce. We encourage guests to support our rural economy. The Granary (sleeps 6) and The Tram (sleeps 2) are also available within the farmyard for even larger groups — we have over 550 positive reviews across all three properties.
